What Is No-Touch Laser?

No-Touch laser, as its name suggests, is a treatment performed without any contact with the eye. This method, which is effective for refractive errors, corrects problems such as hyperopia, astigmatism, and myopia. Patients who have had a No-Touch procedure can still undergo other eye surgeries later on. There is no drawback to this.
How Is No-Touch Laser Performed?
The procedure is performed using drop anesthesia. General or local anesthesia is not needed. The procedure does not cause pain.
The steps of the No-Touch laser procedure are briefly as follows:
- The area around the eyes is cleaned with an antiseptic solution.
- A transparent drape is placed over the patient's face. (The mouth and nose are left uncovered.)
- During treatment, no device touches the eyes at all. The procedure is performed using beams emitted from the laser device. The only thing asked of the patient is to look toward the green light. The procedure takes about 5 to 6 minutes. Both eyes are treated in the same session.
Is No-Touch Laser Safe?
This is a safe and effective treatment method. It can also be comfortably chosen for people with a retinal tear or a predisposition to retinal tears. It is a suitable option for patients who have previously had cataract surgery and need to wear glasses. No-Touch laser is the only alternative for patients whose corneal surface is steeper than normal and thinner than usual. Other laser methods are applied to patients with normal corneal thickness. On the other hand, the No-Touch laser method does not involve any incision to the eye or removal of any tissue. Tissue loss is minimal.
Who Can Have No-Touch Laser Treatment?
● Have completed 18 years of age
- Whose eyeglass prescription has not increased by 0.75 diopters or more in the last 6 months,
- Whose corneal topography is suitable for surgery,
- Who are concerned about anything touching their eye,
- Who have high hyperopia (up to 6 diopters), astigmatism, or myopia (up to 11 to 12 diopters)
- For whom other laser techniques cannot be applied because their cornea is under 500 microns,
- Who have a steep corneal structure,
- Who have been diagnosed with moderate or advanced keratoconus,
- Who do not have eye diseases such as corneal degeneration,
- No-Touch laser is applied successfully to patients with a high risk of dry eye.
Treatment Methods with No-Touch Laser
LASIK Method: In this technique, a flap is created on the outermost layer of the cornea. This flap is gently lifted from the cornea, and laser beams are then directed straight onto the tissue beneath it. The flap is then repositioned over the cornea, completing the procedure.
No-Touch Laser Method: This is performed without any vacuum ring or incision on the eye. The eyes are still exposed to laser beams. After treatment, antibiotic eye drops are administered.
