- Decreased night vision

- Frequent changes in eyeglass prescription.
What Is Cataract?
Cataract is an important eye condition that occurs quite commonly, especially at an advanced age. It occurs as a result of the eye's lens becoming clouded and losing or reducing its transparency.
Cataract is commonly described as a curtain descending in front of the eye. People describe this condition this way because of the resulting image, which loses its clarity and becomes blurred and hazy.
What Causes Cataract?
Cataract occurs as a result of the eye's lens, located behind the pupil and responsible for vision, losing its transparency and becoming cloudy. There are two different causes of cataract. The first is known as congenital cataract, which is present from birth. Congenital cataract can occur in babies due to medications the mother commonly used during pregnancy or infections she experienced. The second is age-related cataract, which occurs as vision gradually decreases in adults over 50 to 60 years of age.
Diabetes in particular can trigger cataract. It can also be seen in diabetic patients in the 30-40 age group.
How Is Cataract Treated?
The only treatment method for cataract is surgery. In cataract surgeries performed using different techniques, a lens is placed inside the eye, preventing further vision impairment. The choice of lens used in cataract treatment is determined according to what best suits the patient's general health condition. Thanks to recent innovations in this field, patients are observed to lead a much more comfortable life after cataract surgery.
Cataract Treatment Without Surgery
There is no non-surgical treatment for cataract. Surgery is the only solution, especially for advanced cataracts that cause vision impairment. However, sometimes a cataract may be located at the edge of the eye's lens and not negatively affect the person's vision. In such cases, treatment is not needed for this type of cataract. Therefore, surgery is not required for these types of cataract conditions.
